ASFPM Dam Working Group

Floodplain managers are taking renewed interest in levees across the country, considering the consequences of levee failure and the consequences of overtopping of a properly designed, constructed and maintained levee.

ASFPM feels that it appropriate to take a similar interest in the impact of dams on flooding, floodplains, flood risk and other aspects of floodplain management which are of vital interest to its members.

In August, 2008, the Chair of ASFPM created a Dam Working Group to gather information on dams and their impact on floodplain management. It is anticipated that this Working Group will prepare a background paper that includes this information, along with policy recommendations for consideration by the ASFPM Board of Directors.

Any person with an interest in this subject, or information or data that can assist the Working Group in its activities is invited to participate, regardless of his/her membership in ASFPM. If you are interested, please contact Becky Head at ASFPM to get added to the distribution list for the Dam Working Group.

This website will post articles and publications of interest to the Working Group. These can be accessed by the "Publications" link below.
